Knowing Koh Samui Better-2

Before writing this post, there was a mammoth surfing and comparing my own experience at Koh Samui with other fellow travellers who have shared their experience on internet. In the last post (Knowing Koh Samui Better-1) I had discussed regarding the best season to visit Samui. Once you figure out the time for holidaying at Samui, the next thing comes into mind is how to reach there and what are the transportation facilities available.

Koh Samui the picturesque island at Gulf of Thailand is located some 700km south of Bangkok and about 80km from the eastern coastline of southern Thailand. You can reach there by both air and water. From Bangkok you can get regular flights to Koh Samui. From international destinations you have to fly via Bangkok. However, a surcharge of 300 Baht is levied on domestic departure and 500 Baht on international departure. Koh Samui air port is a private air port. It was developed by Bangkok Airways which is the main operator till now. Along with Bangkok Air, you can also fly through Berjaya Air and Firefly. Visa-on-Arrival and Visa-Free entry facilities are available for nationals of limited countries only.

If you want to reach Koh Samui, the land of attractions through water, you can take the help of ferry services from Surat Thani. It costs around 200-300 baht. The voyage will take around 3 hours.

Once at Koh Samui, you can take help of car rent service or public transportation systems like bus for commuting.
